Introduction

Fe 500D TMT Reinforcement BarTiscon 500 D is a high strength ribbed TMT reinforcement bar. For reference, the strength of the rebar is 500 MPa and 'D' represents the ductility of the rebar. By keeping the level of impurities like Sulphur and Phosphorous to below 0.075%, the consistency in strength across the rebar is maintained. TATA Tiscon 500 D conforms to the latest standards (last revision 2012) set by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Specification

TATA Tiscon 500 D is manufactured through a superior quality and controlled steel making process to diminish the levels of impurities like Sulphur and Phosphorous. These impurities decrease the strength of steel in extreme hot and cold conditions. Therefore lower these values the better.

TATA Tiscon 500 D is available in sizes from 6mm to 32mm. A comparison chart on specifications of 500, 500 D and BIS standards is mentioned below -

Introduction

In the past few years there has been an increase in the demand for higher strength grades with higher elongation for various applications. Fourth revision of IS 1786 : 2008 has been taken up to incorporate various changes found necessary as a result of experience gained and technological advances made in the field of steel bars and wire manufacturing.

    Following are some of the important modifications incorporated in this revision:
  • A new strength grade Fe 600 has been introduced.
  • Two categories based on elongation for each for each grade except Fe 600 have been introduced.
  • A new parameter 'percentage total elongation at maximum force' has been introduced.
  • Nominal sizes have been rationalized.

Addition of micro alloying elements is not mandatory for any grade including Fe 600. When strengthening elements like Nb, V, B, Ti are used individually or in combination, the total contents shall not 0.30 percent.

CRS D - Process Technology

Tata TISCON CRSD rebars are produced using a judicious selection of corrosion resistant elements minimizing the Phosphorus (P) content in steel. This makes them compliant to the chemical composition of Fe500D grade.

Tata TISOCN CRSD rebars are produced using Thermo Mechanical Treatment (TMT) route. The microstructure resulting from the TMT process, leads to higher corrosion resistance on account of:

  • Being free from residual torsional stresses
  • Development of thin oxide film on the steel surface that plugs the holes in the oxide layer
  • Presence of self-tempered lathe martensitic layer on surface known to inhibit corrosion attack and
  • Homogeneous distribution of corrosion resistant elements from core to surface
